JAA PPL COURSE

Introduction. All training for a private pilot's licence is currently to be carried out to the JAR syllabus and requirements.

Course Content. The course itself consists of a minimum of 45 hours flying, that is 5 hours more than the old PPL. The Navigation and General Flight Tests are replaced by a single Skills Test in six parts. The good news is that the JAA rules allow you to go solo at 16.

Availability and Timescale. It is very much up to you how you undertake this course. If you are in a hurry - for example if you want to take the commercial written exams - then set aside about four continuous weeks. If you can only come once a week for one lesson then expect to take six months to a year, depending on how lucky you are with the weather.

Pre-course requirements. It is a requirement that students must hold a valid JAA Class 2 medical before going solo on this course.

School Requirements. ASW urges all students to hold a valid JAA Class 2 medical starting the course. See "So you want to be a pilot?" for the whole story.

Cost. The cost for 45 hours flying training, ground instruction as necessary, all written exams and the final skills test is:

£5850

Aerodrome. Exeter International Airport has all the facilities expected of an international passenger airport and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK.

Accommodation. Excellent accommodation is at hand ranging from B&B at £15 a night to a four star hotel.
