Introduction. This course is for pilots who have passed the JAA written exams at ATPL or CPL level and wish (or need!) to convert their PPL into a commercial licence.
Pre-entry Requirements. To start a modular CPL course you need to have a minimum of 150 hours flight time as pilot and, of course, have passed the JAA ATPL or CPL exams.
The Course. We offer a friendly and informal but thorough CPL course on either a 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 basis. The instructor is yours for the duration of the course, as are the CAA approved aircraft - a P28A and P28R. We guarantee to do our utmost to fit in with your timescale and training needs, and will arrange the test date to suit. The course itself consists of a minimum of 25 hours dual instruction, 20 on the P28A Warrior (up to 5 of which may be on our brilliant FNPT II simulator) and 5 on the P28R Arrow to prepare the student for the General Flight Test which is taken on the Arrow - or the Duchess if you prefer to do the combined MEPCPL.
Pre-licence requirements. When you apply for the JAR-FCL CPL(A) licence you must have:-
Comment. You will see from the above that although you only need 150 hours to start the course, you need 200 before licence issue. As the course and test will come to about 27 hours we strongly suggest that you do not start the course until you have 175 hours (we can help with hour building).
About the School. ASW is CAA approved for a number of professional courses. We operate from an airport that is big enough to have full ATC and Instrument services but small enough to be friendly and helpful. All our training is carried out to the best possible standard and, we hope, with the utmost good humour (i.e. we're slightly mad but doggedly professional). Apart from study books and land-away fees there are no other charges - even the coffee, tea and car parking are free.
Cost. The cost for 25 hours flying training and ground instruction is:
£4500 Aerodrome. Exeter International Airport has all the facilities expected of an international passenger airport and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK.
Accommodation. Excellent accommodation is at hand ranging from B&B at £15 a night to a four star hotel. Military students can usually find accommodation nearby without difficulty.
